Departure for Corigliano and visit of the castle attributed to Roberto il Guiscardo in 1073, with adjoining church dedicated to San Pietro. The city develops progressively around the castle and the churches of “Santoro” and “Santa Maria”.
60 km north-west of Rossano, Civita (1200 inhabitants) is located on a natural rock balcony close to the Raganello Canyon and is surrounded by the high mountains of Pollino.
After the flight of the Turks Civita was colonized again around 1471 by the Albanians.
Today this town is one of the most important Albanian centers in Italy, where still in the church of Santa Maria dell’Assunta rites are celebrated in Orthodox language.
